Uk import charges?

#1
I just got a message from the royal mail saying I need to pay £12 pounds to get the £18 game I ordered from PlayAsia and am having a bit of a wtf moment. I knew there might be some import charges but had assumed they would be proportional to the value of the product and I'm just wondering if this is normal? Should I expect this every time I order a game from abroad and is there any way I can get out of it?

Which games console are they for?

Just one game for PS3. Does that make a difference?

Sometimes you don't have to pay, but that's down to sheer luck or if the seller marks the item as 'gift'. £12 sounds about right, I paid around £20 for Pokemon Gold and Silver games a long time back. Items such as books carry no import charge though.

Thx RawToast, I'll bear that in mind next time I'm thinking of buying something. Hopefully this game is worth it anyway. XD
