I'm trying to add my 三菱東京UFJ銀行 bank account to Google Wallet but it asks for a 9 digit 銀行コード(ルーティング番号) when all I have is a 4 digit code. What?

I don't think you can tie a bank account to a Google wallet.

Routing numbers are a Japanese based system. Generally if you are routing money with a Japanese bank you are using a SWIFT code. If you don't have that then you are using branch number, address, and bank name; and the intermediary company will help find the right place for the money.

Japan has a touchy relationship with online money movement when it comes into contact with bank accounts. Its worth noting for instance that you can't send money from your bank account to a Paypal account now (I believe you can deposit though, but its still tricky). This is all because of Japan's heavy bank laws.

If you want to move money with Google wallet, you need a credit card. Thats how I do it. Try getting a Rakuten Visa credit card, they are more open to letting foreigners get a credit card.
