I think this thread should be a place for people to post other street fighting and martial arts injuries.

I can kind of imagine the damage. Was pushed into a crowd of guys trying to force their way into a club, now years ago, and a bouncer (same as a doorman, right?) grabbed me by the head and threw me across the road, ripping on of my dreadlocks in the process (man, that really was years ago). Hair hasn't grown back properly in that spot since.

I know they've got a job to do but this sort of thing has happened a few times and I wouldn't mind taking a tazer to some of those lazy pr**ks thinking simple, unwarranted violence is a reasonable means to manage security. If I weren't a kid at the time would probably have pressed charges. Oh well.

Kind of interested to hear the short lived fame or infamy of others now.

*cough* not that I condone violence, usually, to anyone outside of video games and controlled martial arts/sports situations. After all, people make profits of those sort of things, legally- hence making it socially acceptable, lol.

I am such a lucky bastard that though I've been involved in dozens of incidents I've never been personally affected. No idea why. The tear gas was always over by the time I got there, the local neo-nazis never laid a finger on me(they tried to set me on fire once but gave up half-way, and though there was one who claimed to have a personal vendetta against me he never got around to it, and lost his friends in the process =( ), the group fights always seemed to leave me out, and the bouncers always picked on everyone else but me.

The closest thing to a martial arts injury was the fact that I got a bad case of the flu from being barefoot in winter for karate class.

Ah wait, there was one incident . Once a girl got drunk and punched me in the face. It was so weak I wouldn't have noticed, had my glasses not fallen off. I was more surprised than anything; the bouncer took her out, she got banned, and I never saw her again (though I heard that after a few years she was still "out to get me").

*laughs* There was a similar incident a handful of years ago. One night, walking through town, two older boys stumbled into me and started questioning where I had been, etc. rather paranoid (and for whatever reason, with a fervent anger). Due to my age, I foolishly told one of them that I had "spent the night with your mother", to which I received a first in the mouth, following by a bottle to the back of the head (feebly; not breaking in the process).

Word of caution: don't smart mouth angry drunks, lol. I don't know what it is around here (Australia) but most of the young guys I have had the pleasure of bumping into turn into complete (insert something sharp and French) after drinking. Then again, based on further experience, they were probably so-and-so's to begin with.

Good old sunny, beach-locked Australia. Here is a nice little example of the youth I grew up with (and are still the same) in a "nicer" coastal town (used to stop at that train station on the way to school most days):

Drunk people do tend to get violent sometimes, but the funny thing about the incident with that chick is that it's the only time anyone's ever touched me. Everyone was baffled, starting with me; I just looked at her after noticing my glasses fell off and asked her "did you just punch me?". The bouncer showed up, saw what happened and asked her "you seriously punched her of all people?", and a few people joined in with the same reaction . You had to be there (I had a weird reputation, which helped, but basically I was more than twice her size at the time and was known to be quite strong).

Most street violence here is pretty organized though. You have the random fights, but most of them are footballfans, the various hate groups, ghetto fights(may involve katanas), and various degrees of wanton police brutality.... and the occasional riots.

Point is, I really am one lucky bastard to have such a nonviolent history despite always being in the middle of things .

just broke it. I'm not in too much pain because I have been taking kickings since I was a kid...

I would like to make the point that most martial arts training wouldnt prepare you for this.

I get injured more from stupidity than fighting. I avoid altercations with my smooth talking and visible frailty that convinces would be attackers that it'd be too easy.

When I used to do a lot of 合気道, I would pick up a lot of minor injuries, but I only ever had one memorable incident. Our dojo was long, but narrow, so you had to watch where you fell. Well, I wasn't watching carefully enough one night and as I rolled out of a throw, I managed to punch a 6-inch hole in the wall.

With my knee. >_<

Luckily I didn't break anything, but I had a purple knee for a while... and I had to repair the wall, too.

Good times.

Yeah Aikido doesn't work for people going out looking for a street fight... otherwise it works better than most martial arts in defending yourself against an attacker.

it actually states in the book angry white pajamas that some aikido, ie one school is fake. I went to a dojo in the uk and i wasnt impressed
