*Nothing really extra needed here, i'd say it would be needed for some verbs though. My Japanese isn't at a super high level, but with my level of vocabulary I can get around and make some explanations of the vocab word.

It would work for simple nouns and verbs (wristwatch, grapes, cat, dog, run, drive), but not for more abstract words (negotiable, difficult, superior). It would be confusing with adverbs and adjectives (quickly, heavy) if the nouns and verbs in the sentence don't match the picture.

The more important question is... is it worth the time? I think probably not, you'll be spending a lot of time searching for appropriate pictures. If you enjoy the process, it's fine and you'll learn something, but if you're looking for the most efficient way to study this won't be it.

Yeah it definitely would be time consuming now that I think about it. I'm just trying to find a good way to practice production. I can recognize xxxx amount of words but I can't create anything with them as I just can't remember the word.

I think that you can make it work. However, there are some words that may be hard to distinguish. Like　車(kuruma) 自動車(jidousha) both mean car. What I do with my production deck is adding some hint whenever it's necessary to distinguish between the two/three words. Like "1k"(1 kanji), "3k" (3 kanji), hk (hiragana first then kanji), h (only hiragana), ka (katakana), etc.
You may have same issue when multiple adjectives, nouns or verbs are possible. You could either add the English keyword or Japanese reading to make it distinct.
Wherever I'm confused about which word to use A or B, and if there are few possibilities I would add a hint "not A", meaning that I don't want to recall the word A, just word B.

For 車 I could just add a hint like "not jidousha", meaning that I it's a synonym to jidousha, but a different word.

Most of the time I don't add any hints. I just add the minimum amount of information necessary to produce the word.

What's the point of having production cards for synonyms if you don't know which one to use in which situation without hints?

There isn't much. However, I use pre-made cards from core-6000.txt. There are some synonyms there already, there is nothing I can do about that :/ There aren't too many often, so I guess it's fine.

Yes, it's true that going from English to Japanese helps at higher level. However, it may be hard to make production cards without using English at all. It is probably waste of time if you are at N2 level or below. At least for me it's easier to memorize a Japanese word if I know it's English meaning.

Usually, I don't read the English sentence at all as I'm trying to use just the Clozed deletion sentence and English keyword. It's a good idea to think about the sentence in Japanese, English keyword is just supposed to be a sort of a hint.

I see two ways to make production deck one method is to have closed deletion sentence with English keyword, the other one is having closed deletion sentence with Japanese reading of the word. I guess the third way would be trying to guess the Japanese word from the context, but it may be hard to create such deck.

I'm planning to switch to Japanese recognition deck after I learn first 6000 or 10000 words. Some people say that it takes less time to do a recognition deck than the production deck. However, I want to be able to produce at least 6000 words as I was able to recognize lots of words from Core6k, but I was unable to recall them when trying to translate English sentence into Japanese.

Somehow, I don't feel like doing it just now as I would have to spend a lot of time with dictionary checking meaning of each entry.

I just realized that you were learning Kanjis as well, so you don't know them yet.

I forgot to mention that my deck (http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?p...#pid195295) is only recommended if you already learned all kanjis from RtK vol 1. You will waste a lot of time if you try to learn both kanjis and their readings at the same time. I tried that method a few years ago, but it didn't work well.

Is your deck similar to Nukemarines core 6k deck? I'm pretty far into it, however I've been doing only recognition. Kanji in front, all the needed stuff in the back. It's true I'm not far into RTK, but hey Core still is very easy.

In all honesty I don't even know why I'm doing RTK if I can already study these words with ease, it's fun nevertheless so I guess i'll finish it. However! My ability to recognize some kanjis in other compounds are weak if I haven't studied it many times, with RTK it allowed me to recognize them sometimes I guess.

Oh and for fun, when I was at Japan I bought this Jouyou kanji book. It just has on yomi, kun yomi, stroke order, and some compounds with readings. This included all of the old 1945 jouyou kanji. I do about 8 a day, in order the kids in japan learn it. I know it's not that effective but it's really fun. I just memorize the stroke order and just the kun yomi. I like rote memorization, but RTK certainly is much better for memorizing the kanji. So I just do both. Than of course, I do Core, and my genki textbooks.

eh I think you should put this time towards something else. seems sorta time-consuming with making the cards. mcds are pretty easy/fast to make whether you're using the plugin on anki or not but this seems time-consumig and i just think there's better stuff spend time on.
