It appears to be 5th Edition (2007), not the 6th Edition (2011) that's available in deadtree format on Amazon.com. I'm still slumming it with the old 4th Edition I picked up a few years back, though, so I probably shouldn't complain.

Any thoughts? I remember there was some bru-ha-ha about 6th edition and frame numbering, but I've been kinda idle with my studies over the past few years -- learning a new job and finishing up my first degree kinda kept me too busy for any real studies -- is it being 5th instead of 6th edition a concern?

I actually recommend the 5th edition over the 6th edition, as long as you use the user contributions on this site to be informed about any errors, questionable keywords, etc. Reason: the 6th edition has integrated the new Jouyou kanji, most of which are useless to a beginner. The fifth edition will allow you to complete RTK1 faster, and afterwards you can always download the free supplement any time you feel like it to complete the Jouyou set. Or just decide to drop it altogether and learn new kanji as you encounter them.

No, I agree with Savii on this.

I own the 6th edition and looking back I wish I got hold of the 5th. So many tools (this site and decks) are setup based on the ordering from the 1st-5th editions, whilst very little supports the 6th edition.

You can get the additional kanji from an insert anyway

For Andoid on Google Play Kanji Up, and Kanji Renshuu. Go to Google play and then search "kanji up" It cost 99 cents. There is also the free version with only some of the kanji.

Kanji Up has lessons in Heisig vol 1 order. It also draws the Kanji, AND most importantly it has a space for you to input the story. It tests you from keyword to kanji, as Heisig recommends. You can export your stories from here into a android text editor or notepad and then copy and paste them into the story field in kanji up. Or if you are a geek and have Root access to your android device, then you can import your stories into the android SQL database.

I suggested to the author that he allow for easy import from kanji Koohii, since you can export your preferred stories from kanji koohi.

Kanji Up does not mark your problem kanji. To get through a lesson it keeps giving you the ones you got wrong until you get them right. But those problems are not preserved for later review. So I use Kanji Renshuu to store my difficult kanji.

Kanji Renshuu has the kanji in Heisig order too. You can mark only the kanji you want to study and then review them in Leitner style boxes.
