Most common words used by heisig kanji

#1
Here is the list you all have unknowingly wanted. The most common words using each kanji from RTK.

1) FINISHED THE BOOK
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5267...gWords.txt
This list is aimed at people who have already finished the book - words will contain kanji from further on in the book. Eg:
10 十 十分[じゅうぶん] (P)(adj-na) (1) plenty,
Even though this is a common word for 十, it also contains 分 which is a kanji learned later in the book.

2) STUDYING THE BOOK
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5267...arners.txt
This list is aimed at people who are currently learning the kanji and want to learn actual words at the same time. It will never give you a word with kanji you that you haven't yet studied. Eg:
20 明 明日[あした] (P)(n-t) tomorrow,(P)
Because you have already studied the kanji 日 (earlier in the book), this word is show as the most common word for the kanji 明.

This is an interesting list. Thank you for sharing.
However, my attention was attracted by the fact that 田舎[いなか] is indicated to be the most frequent word using the kanji 田.
Since this word is an ateji, it means that this list is not a "list of words using the most common reading of each kanji".
Such a list would be useful too (maybe it even already exists)
It would probably be preferable to treat on and kun readings separately.

I considered this but there is no easy way to make that kind of list unless someone has tagged all the words in a dictionary and explained if it is using the on/kun readings for each kanji in each word - a massive pain in the bum.

If someone is making lists like this for yomi, netsplitter posted a Python script that separates the readings of kanji in http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=10366. It doesn't convert all readings to the forms used in yomi lists though, and it doesn't recognize all words.

I updated my post with another list that might be better. Either way I know there are going to be lots of exceptions if I try to make an on/kun-yomi list. If you're still working on RTK then you shouldn't be worrying about how to pronounce the kanji just yet anyway IMO. I provided these lists for people who want to build on what they are learning with some actual real Japanese instead of just abstract kanji - thats all :-D
