I'm sure similar threads have come up before, so if you know of any, please let me know.

I'd like to pass N1 in the future. Not sure when, but I want to get to that level as soon as I can, and have significant time every day to put into studying right now.

Background:
I've finished the Core 6k deck on Anki. I'm comfortable with all the RtK kanji and some others that have come up in vocabulary study. I'm comfortable with the grammar points in the first two grammar dictionaries, and a chunk of the points in the final grammar dictionary. My speaking and listening are probably at a higher level than other skills. Reading isn't so-so; it's probably mostly held back by insufficient vocabulary.

I passed N2 comfortably a year ago and have definitely progressed since then, but from the few N1 samples I've seen so far, the levels of these tests are completely different, and I know I'm not near N1 yet.

I plan to eventually get some JLPT-specific books (maybe from the 完全マスター series), but apart from that, any recommendations for what to focus on?

Focus on your weakest skills. Run a simulation, see where you have the most mistakes, and practice that aspect to hell and back. If reading is an issue, start reading. If vocabulary is an issue, do more vocabulary. Aside from the JLPT thing, it's generally a good idea to make your skills more balanced.

Also, make sure you grasp the fine points. It's cool to understand things when you have context, but you might realize that you don't know what makes grammar points different from one another, and the JLPT usually focuses on that.

Textbook-wise, yeah, kanzen master is the best.

(more meta advice regarding the jlpt would be to not focus on kanjis at all. Given how 50% of the N1 test-takers are Chinese, I think the kanji questions will be worth the least)

Hey If you do pick up the N1 book/books come hang out in my google plus community at https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/...2808806068 (just request and invite). Its a group I made for people at my school studying the books but of course I value members from this forum's input as high if not more than my classmates. We are dedicated to push ourselves. The focus is really just talk about whatever Japanese related while I upload lessons from the series for easy access when you're on the go and don't want to carry your books. Or to have a digital copy to screenshot and import to anki. We can always work together to get through confusing grammar and ask each other questions if we don't understand why a certain answer is correct and others are wrong.

Right Now we have 14 members with the entire N2 Grammar and reading books uploaded. I'll work on N1 when I have time which isn't too common.

Request sent. I'm going nuts trying to organize my Kanzen Master 1級 and N1 grammar books so I don't duplicate effort. @_@ (Might take less time to just duplicate effort.)

Would you mind if I join as well. I'm in the middle of studying for the N2 exam. I'm hoping to finish the Core 6k deck within like 2-3 months. I'm half-way there. I'll have to study grammar as well, but so far I'm not sure what the best learning materials are.

If anyone sends a request they will get accepted. The n1 reading book was uploaded this weekend. I'll be getting the grammar book whenever my friend lets me borrow it to put it up.
