I've been searching for awhile now and couldn't find out how kanji are tested. Is it like they give you a kanji and you have to give the kun yomi. Sorry for asking such a stupid question

You can find what type of exercises are given for each level, as well as a sample exam for each level, on the JLPT website. For the most part, recognizing words and saying which kanjis make them up, or you're given a kanji compound and have to tell its reading (not on/kun but context-specific). It's all context-specific, by the way, so don't expect 上=うえ but 階段を上がる=>あがる。There are also questions regarding okurigana and correct writing, but again, level-specific.
