I'm personally looking for documentaries about religion, philosophies and the history of Japan-- but I thought this topic would serve better for everyone if I broaded it a bit .

I've recently been watching a series called Begin Japanology. Every episode deals with a different aspect of Japanese culture and there's a bit of history too. It's been running since 2008 I think, so there's quite a lot of episodes and some of them are very interesting. You can learn a lot, at least I did You can find it on D-Addicts.

Thanks for that, I've never heard of that series before! Managed to find quite a few on youtube as well, watched a very interesting one about a Buddhist pilgramage.
