Magazine Recommendations in Japan

#1
Hi, I'm looking for interesting, not too difficult, periodicals to subscribe to in Japan.

I live so deep in the middle of nowhere that I have no access to a book store/ konbini to browse titles.

I am interested in general Japanese culture, travel, onsen, social justice, human rights, reading, news and current affairs (a weekly/monthly newspaper would be nice - daily is too often) and science. (I am not interested in fashion or sport)

They can be aimed at kids/teenagers or not-too-difficult adult titles.

Something like Hiragana Times minus the English and furigana would be ideal!

Any recommendations?

You can find some subscriptions here: http://www.jlist.com/category/194, but I'm afraid the selection is mostly limited to anime/fashion genre.

Every 'weekly' newspaper I could find (Japan Times Weekly, Nikkei Weekly) was in English. There should be something for natives that you could subscribe to; although, you could just use the newspaper websites instead.

Haha, how far are you from the nearest book store/konbini?

I lived in a town with no train station, book store, or konbini, for a little while, but I went to civilization as frequently as I could. (I also, incidentally, had an outhouse, owned a lot of leftover farm equipment in my three farming sheds, etc.--life is weird sometimes) Take a vacation to civilization and go to a book store!

Thanks everyone for your input!

Those two links for browsing look promising.

If anyone's interested, I have come across a weekly shinbun aimed at chuugakusei、which looks pretty good (quite challenging):

The konbini is about 20min away so not really that bad - but they don't have that much reading material. The nearest bookstore is about an hour away, but I don't have a car, so it involves a very infrequent train, meaning I can't just go and come back, I have to organise my whole day around the bloody trains Tongue It's really not that bad though...I live in the beautiful inaka, surrounded by beautiful ocean and forested mountains. No complaints :-)
