Anki Small Questions Thread - (NO Technical / Troubleshooting Posts)

Hi,

I just started using the anki deck" Heisigs Remember the Kanji(RTK) 1+3 ".

I am a beginner in RTK but when i am using this deck, it doesn't start in with the keyword "one".

Instead, it starts with the keyword"bamboo grass".

How do i reorder this deck???
Reply
This should do it:
1. in the deck list, click on the heisig deck
2. click browse
3. click fields
4. click heisig number
5. click sort by this field in the browser, then close
6. click the sort field until # is on top, and select all
7. choose "reposition" in the edit menu with "start position: 0" and "shift position..." enabled.

Has anyone else been having trouble with their filter decks messing up the schedule of to the main deck? This started happening to me after AnkiDroids last update. I would have my filter deck set to 'tag:marked' so I can marked the 10 cards that I will study tomorrow so I can learn them today. I don't have 'Reschedule ' checked yet the next day, the cards I studied in the filtered deck don't show up, the next set of 10 cards show up instead. I always empty the filtered after learning the cards so I can't figure out why they are being skipped.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem before I go post in a Anki technical forum.

EDIT: This also happens on the decktop version.

Yes!

It's happened to me a few times so that I'm avoiding using filtered decks lately. It seems to reset the learning cards to have no remaining learning steps. I did a filtered deck that just collected mature cards and it didn't seem to have any deleterious effects.

Glad I'm not alone xD For me, the cards that I marked the day before get mixed up in the next 10 new cards. Like it would have 4 new cards, 1 marked, 1new, 1 marked, 1 new etc. until there are no more marked cards then they are all new ones. Would show picture but on phone now. >_<

Here's the post I made about it on Anki Support: https://anki.tenderapp.com/discussions/a...ered-decks

After reading the anki manual online, I couldn't really find an answer to my question, so please excuse that it's probably not really appropriate for this thread, since it's not really a "small" one, more of a "technical" one.

I want to create a spreadsheet and use that to create an anki deck. So I'd like to ask a bit about formatting.
Do I put the categories (eg "kanji" "example sentence") across the top of the spreadsheet (ie "row A")?
If I add colours, but not using "programming code", but just using the font colour button, will the be lost when I import the CSV file, or will they still be there?

Thanks!

Hi people.

I want to shift from J-E (or J-S with spanish xD) to J-J with definitions. I'm at JLPT3 level and I think it is a good moment.

But I don't know what kind of model to use. What do you use? A sentence in the front and the definition of the highlighted word from goo dictionary in the back? Should I use Morphman? I use Morphan with the sentence or with the definition?

My idea is continue with the core6k (I did >3k cards of the desk with J-E) converting the half that remain to J-J and after finish it switch to read light novels with rikaisama/yomichan, but I really don't know how to make that big jump to J-J so I would like to know your experience.

Yes, you can put column headers as the first row of the csv. I don't believe the colors will come across - actually I'm not sure the csv will even support colors as it must be saved as plain text utf-8. However Anki will convert html code coming from the csv so you can add colors that way, or by the way you format your cards within Anki itself. Here is the section in Anki's manual where it explains in more detail how the csv import works.

Thanks! Yeah, I did read the anki manual but it wasn't very clear if the categories should go across the top, or down the side. I thought it made more sense to put them across the top, but wasn't sure.

How can I change the background color of just one side instead of the whole card?

Maybe place <body style="background-color:#FFFFFF">...</body>in the card's front or back template to modify its background color. If that doesn't work, css is your best bet. But there could be more efficient/elegant solutions out there,

Place the following in styling (edit as needed, look up css properties here)

.focus
{ text-align:center; background-color: ; padding: 30px 16px 16px;border: ;border-radius:6px; overflow:hidden;;
font-family:times;font-size:13px;color:black;
}

In front or back template place <div class="focus">Section you wish to enclose</div>

Replace "focus" for any other name and add <div class="name">Section you wish to enclose</div> into front or back template.
.name
{
background-color: ;
}

I am trying to understand the Anki GUI. It's very confusing. I made another card template/type. Now it has created a card for every note. So, the deck has doubled in size. I want to save the old card type, but I want to study only the cards with the new card type. How do I do this?

Other question: If I delete all decks, will the notes remain somewhere?

I'm moving from another SRS system today to Anki so I have core 2k all new, nevertheless I have learned more or less the half of it. So now I have to begin from start Sad Is there a way to mark the first 1000 cards for review or something? or suggest me less painless way not starting from 一二三 as new (just will save some time)

1.Open your deck in the browser (find the "Browse" button)
2. Select the card you have already learned (shift+ click the card's range)
3. select "edit" button > "Reschedule" > Tick the "Place in review queue with interval between" > then put in the min and max interval you want

For example, putting min interval = 30, and max interval = 60 will averages out the selected card review due date to be 1-2 months in the future

English is not my native language so if the explanations aren't very clear then tell me and i'll give a snapshot tutorials

Thanks you explained quite perfect Smile

And do you know how to delete/suspend set of cards from a deck for example:
Cards have field:
JLPT Level: JLPT4

If I want to study only JLPT5/4 how to remove JLPT3/2/1 cards?

Hi there, I've just finished doing RTK1 + the 2010 extra jojou supplement (woohoo!!!).

I've decided to switch to Anki for reviewing, using the RTK1 6th edition deck, which seems to be the highest rated shared deck there for my purposes.

My question is: is it possible to change the settings so that, instead of the (1 min) (good 10min) and (easy 4days) that you get when you are first presented with a card, you are presented with the full range of options from (1min) (10 mins) (1 day) (3 days) (4 days) and (9days), that you are usually presented with the second time around. Of course keeping it so that the spaced repetition gaps gradually get larger as they are intended to do.

I guess, basically, can you skip forward a step?

Thanks for your time,
Zig

Hi,
after a few years, I'm thinking of quitting Anki. It's being very exhausting and I'm not sure I'm getting any result. All the time spent to conceive next card; all the time spent to repeat each card (three mains decks for english and french too), instead of reading a new page of a book or listening a new dorama. I don't know! I would like to stop for a while but there would be so many cards to repeat then, and I'm nearly scared of forgetting all the material I've collected until now! What's your experience about that?
Thank you...

I used to take a break from Anki occasionally, especially during the busy uni semester. What I noticed when re-picking up Anki about 4-6 months later is that I forgot almost all cards(about 75%) that is not matured, but I needed to re-learn only about 15% of matured cards. It took about 10 seconds to recall some card though.

So my conclusion is you will likely retain about 10-20% for non mature cards, 65-75% for mature cards,s and 90% for cards with 6months+ interval. and I have not touched Japanese related material during these period. so if you're gonna be exposed to real Japanese material during Anki break, then you'll almost likely have way higher anki retention rate than mine when you resume Anki. you should also be able to decide which Anki cards you don't need or you might realise you've come to the point where Anki is not needed anymore and quit it all together. I think

Just create a new profile in anki and then import the deck into it.

I started studying Vocabulary, yesterday (At 1900 RTK). I created 30 vocabulary cards in 2 hours. I remember someone posting here that he could create Anki cards in minutes.

This is a bit of a stretch, but - The Core 10k/15k cards are beautiful. Is there any way to automatically add the cards (that you encounter in your studies), from core to your vocab deck?
For Example- I mainly use rikai-sama. Is there any add-on that automatically converts the rikai highlights to card with their meanings ,individual Kanji ,sentences from Core Decks?

Is there an easier way to go through the restudy cards? When i have a long list i have to go back, then scroll all the way down and click on the kanji i want.
