PS4 won it for me. Basically for all the reasons Hirakana mentioned. The funniest part is that Sony isn't even doing anything new, they're just carrying on the same basic features the PS3 has. The big difference is that they're not shooting themselves in the foot like Microsoft. Also: KH3. Wazzzuuppppp

Without importing, these games wouldn't be available in Australia. Yes, it is all fair and well to say that "well, you can import them; what the problem?", but for younger gamers, unless the parents are tech savvy (as in, not the majority), these people miss out entirely on these games, purely for being in Australia.By "these" games, you are talking about PS1/2 games ya? Some how I doubt young gamers are fretting over not being able to play these games. Some 'young' gamers might be old enough to remember the PS2 and may have played a few games on it, but most are on the PS3 now and probably grew up on it. Anyone that remembers the PS2 is barely considered "young" any more and likely not on mommy's purse strings any more. And the PS1? If they remember and played the PS1, then they should get out of mommy's basement. Complaining about region locking for systems that are 2 generations behind is ridiculous. If you truely want to play the games that bad, just pirate them or run them on emulators. Either that or buy them on the playstation store.
From the sounds of it your real complaint is just about greedy businesses and consumers willing to take it.

I was a bit shocked when I learned that the US and Japan are in the same region for Blu-ray, so imports are no problem (doesn't help other regions, though). With Japan release dates on movies, I can often get the blu-rays from the US before the movie is even out in Japan, or at least around the same time.
I wonder if the new Xbox will also have the "Asia" region. Play-asia.com saved me a bit of cash on games because of that: they worked on the Japanese units, often still had the English (and sometimes both English and Japanese options), were usually quite a bit cheaper than the Japanese game prices, and sometimes also came out earlier.

The PSN store is also region based.

Well, you pretty much just ruined any credibility of opinion on the topic. Good day, I hope you never have to face the issues of missing out due to your region being entirely ignored.

I think it sold though at least according to here. It says 6.92 mil worldwide on both systems. The second one didn't sell all as well though. About 3 mil. Going by those numbers from that site.

I guess you just don't realize how ridiculous you sound complaining about stuff that was only relevant 6-7 years ago. Region locking? Not getting games? Hell, PSX/PS2 games on PSN are no longer region locked if bought on the Playstation Store. I really don't know what you expect to be done about PS2 games have been published already, and when the PS2 has stopped being manufactured. I mean if you just want to bitch that Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo have region locked you out, then go right ahead, but it just looks childish, especially since games on the current generation have been getting released in Europe and Oceania (and the PS4 won't be region locked. Though feel free to bitch about the Xbone since that is region locked.).
blackbrich Wrote:@vix86uisukii was talking about young gamers still reliant on their parents for stuff. That would place them at below 18. But I figure you could make the cut off at 15-16 since I know most parents in the US would tell their kid to get a part time job if they want the money to buy games.
What is your definition of young?
At 15-16, you'd be 9-10 when the PS3 launched, which means you'd have to have been playing the PS2 well before 8. The PS2-era systems are the only real consoles you can really honestly complain about region locking and games not being brought over. With the 360/PS3, they realized there are huge markets in Europe/Oceania that can be taped if they speed up and actually release games there. Most 8 year olds that I know that played games did it cause it was something fun to do. They weren't hardcore gamers raging over why they can't get the next Grand Theft Auto.

Hirakana Wrote:By that logic we should just forget all history because it was only relevant in its own period. You're just making yourself sound extremely rude.Comparatively its like complaining about your sports team having lost a championship 8 years ago because of some nonsense rule in the game that no longer exists or has been made void due to the changes in the way the game is played.
If you go back and reread the post of uisukii that I replied to, you'll see he was just complaining about region locking that took place on the PS2 years ago and how he wants the 'rest of the world' to feel his pain. And then he proceeds to lie and say the PS3 is region locked, which it isn't. You can play Japanese PS3 games on any PS3 system.
Later arguments were just based on the fact that years ago EU/AU/NZ never got many games that the rest of the world got and there was no way to get them due to region locking. Something that isn't a factor any more because games are released worldwide. Does it make region locking make any more sense? No not really, but the argument that's trying to be made here against region locking is nonsensical in the context of modern day gaming.

Doing ways on how to earn more money because of the competition in consoles... Remember that android and iOS also make its way into the top as well..

I am already working so a 100 € difference is not so important to me. I probably won't even play very much.
Aside from the privacy issues, I am leaning to buying a xboxone though. The reason simply because I want to have the kinect. Its functionality seems great. Also I think it will be nice to have my son play with it.
I also can't wait for people to do all kinds of hacks on it... especially after seeing what has been done with the old kinect.

Apparently MS isn't planning to release the XboxOne in asian markets for a full year after the launch elsewhere: http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/11/441814...-late-2014
I think they have completely given up on Japan. They did have support from a few key Japanese developers up until now, but I wonder how things will play out now, given this news.

They've now completely backed out on all the bullshit due to the massive negative response.
No used games DRM, no forced post-initial internet connections, and it's going to be region free. Xbox, REGION FREE. I think I'm torn.

I get the feeling that if Sony had come out with much of the same BS and people complained about both, neither company would have budged. Regardless, end result is they've backed down on the used games and internet checks. For now at least.

Well, it must have come down to the fact that they were seemingly losing most of their player base. They got tons of negative feedback right after their reveal event and before Sony had responded to it. Stocks must have plummeted.

I've got a feeling they planned this all along; perhaps they wanted to stir up a shitstorm for the sake of publicity.
If so, it certainly worked. Their Norway price surprised me though, 3999 NOK (€509; £435). Most people expected another 1000...and they are shockingly close to EU/UK prices...
