Oh god what was the name of that bilingual site that translated Japanese news articles while still having the original text completely accessible, and even including comments and responses to the articles? It's maybe not what you're asking for but I just really wanted to check it out.

I don't know about "Japanese blogs in English", but if you like humorous writing about Japan from a foreigner perspective then there's an old blog called Gaijin Smash, or gaijinchronicles.com as it is now. Pretty fun writing by an American who was an assistant English teacher, was really interesting to follow.

Would that be the Hiragana Times, by any chance?

Of course, I write the thing, but still. If you want a real look into Japan, with a bit of wacky humor, this will give you plenty to think about.

That's the one, thanks! It's less bilingual than I remember it with the mouse hover function rather than a way to show the Japanese on the side, but the links to the original stories are good enough.

I've learned a lot reading Japanese blogs... Man! who would have thought that the directional elements of Japan is way too different from other countries... No wonder lots of people get lost in Japan...

I have no idea if it's any good and I've only been in Japan for 6 years and travelled to all 47 prefectures, but there's still so much to learn and explore.

i like japan navigator, it's mostly about culture and art, if you're into that. very informative.

http://shisaku.blogspot.jp/ For Japanese politics, some other blogs on the left hand side.

Although it's not a blog, if you want to exercise your brain a bit and delve deeper into cultural and social issues in Japan I'd highly recommend http://www.japanfocus.org/

Again, not really a blog, but I highly recommend http://www.nippon.com for its in-depth and forward thinking articles.
