MEXT field of study for animation?

#1
I'm trying to take MEXT next year, and am preparing for the test. But I have some problem when I see the application form, especially in the "field of study" field. I'd like to work in a game developer like Konami or at least anime studio like Pierrot/ Toei. And what picks my interest is animation/CG design.

But the thing is, I don't know what should I put in the field of study. I'm trying to take the Undergraduate student one, and have searched for universities that provided animation/CG major, but unfortunately, those are private universities, and I've just read on wikipedia that for undergraduate scholarship, the grantees will be transferred to a National University.

My questions are :
1. Which field are animation and CG included in?
2. Is it possible to apply for animation/CG major for Undergraduate scholarship (S1)? Or are those supposed to be for Specialized Training College (D2)?
3. If I were to take D2 instead in animation/CG major, can I extend my scholarship for S1 before I graduate? If it's possible, can I take the same (or at least related) major?

Sorry for asking alot of question. If you know only 1 answers for those question, it's fine! Go ahead and tell me. At least I get one questions answered Smile Thank you for your attention anyway!

I don't think MEXT makes any distinction between public and private universities (for example Keio has a page on its website regarding the scholarship).

I found this http://www.jasso.go.jp/study_j/documents..._manga.pdf

Thanks for the link! Have been searching for that kind of list but couldn't find one.

Yeah, Keio and the other public/private univ. also offer MEXT scholarship, but I think most of them are for privately-financed foreign students (at least 3 of them that I've checked are like that). Anyway I know this is a stupid question, but "privately-financed" means that the scholarship only pay a certain amount of the college fee right?

And I've read that it's possible to choose the univ. by ourselves but we must be good in Japanese (I even just started studying RTK1 since 2 weeks ago), so I think this is totally out of question :\

I don't know the details of applying for MEXT through the embassy route since I took the university recommendation route, but yeah... most courses at Japanese universities are in Japanese...

I'm not sure, I'd have to see the original page

As far as I know, most universities do not offer CG/Animation programs because they make a distinction between creative arts and majors that require more book study.
Most animators/CG/artists, go to trade schools (専門学校) in order to pick up their skills so if that's what you want to be doing then you need to be applying for the trade/special training scholarship, not the undergraduate one.

Ooh, I see. If I apply for D2, can I extend the scholarship later to go for S1 and taking the same/related course/major? I checked on Konami site just to find out about the requirements for people who usually work there, and of course, S1 is the min. requirement, so I can't go half way while I'm studying in Japan xD;

I saw alot of universities that have/ are focusing on those fields, but most of them are private/public college. Is Undergraduate student only get to get into national univ.?

Of course, whether you graduate out of Computer Science from Tokyo U or some animation course from a trade school, the important thing is one's portfolio.
