Not like, forums about Japanese, but forums in Japanese. Ideally about games and ideally not 2ch because I can't navigate that shit.
Thanks!

I was under the impression that the vast majority of Japanese forums were modeled after the Nichan style, or vice-versa.
I have a Japanese friend that I play a certain MMO with, and when I tried to get him involved in our (meaning, the English-speaking community's) forums about the game, he visited, and ended up posting in a lot of random threads about strange, irrelevant things ... the strict, topic-based thread system was something he'd never had to deal with, as he'd only ever dealt with the *-chan style.
He mentioned how difficult he found posting and searching in the forum, because it was so different from the Japanese boards that he visits. It wasn't anything complicated -- just vanilla Vbulletin, which seemed the most straightforward thing in the world to me ...
Every Japanese board I've ever cast eyes on was blog-style, or chan-style, at least. I may way off base in stating that's how they ALL are ... I honestly don't know, and my friend may just be a fruitcake ... I'm willing to hazard a guess that most of them don't follow the familiar, comforting format that RvtK (and other sites) use, however.
I'm a little curious about your difficulty with navigating chan-style, though ... is it the complete lack of organization? Though it can look chaotic at first, it's actually a lot less involved than "Vbulletin" style (primitive, even).

It's just a cluttered mess. It's text and frames for godssake! Frames! Who the hell uses frames!
With nothing but text formatting to show where posts end and begin it just drives me nuts. I'm pretty hardcore posting on another forum and looking at 2ch blows my mind how anyone can find anything.

But sooner or later one will need to know how to use those forums, right? So it's like it's part of the language learning.
I myself don't have much experience with them. Maybe someone could explain the basics.

Well, I can't imagine why you'd ever NEED to use 2ch. It's more of an "I'm addicted to forums might as well use that to my advantage." sort of thing.

Yes, I didn't mean that you will actually be obligated to use them, but if one wants to eventually switch to total japanese and that format is the only one used in Japan, he/she may want to know how to use them (especially for a forum addicted).

Is 2chan anything like 4chan? I know the latter was based on the former but has since moved from a general board about Japanese culture into a notorious image board that even the FBI are said to monitor!
Is 2chan much the same? My Japanese isn't great so I couldn't understand most of it... but there was someone who kept posting he wanted to die repeatedly.

I was talking about 2ch.net, not 2chan.net (futaba), sorry if I caused any confusion.
idk how appropriate 2chan.net is; I have yet to extensively browse through it
