Many of you may know of LINE, but may not know that they have another app called LINE Cafe. It's basically like Facebook-lite in that you can post and "like" things. Everything is separated by themed rooms made by users, which can range from movie discussion to international exchange. Perhaps we can have a Koohii Lounge on that app where users can post things they need help with or just talk in Japanese; it doesn't matter really.

If you're interested I'm willing to make the group but I need a few suggestions.

What should we call it? コーヒーラウンジ? コーヒー喫茶店? Something else?
What should be the descriptor? The little summary that users see when looking at the room.

Yep doesn't look like many other people are interested but I'll go ahead and create it. I'll edit this post with the name of the group when I make it. Another idea is: コーヒー倶楽部

Not sure if this is the product in question. If it is, I guess it looks pretty groovy. Though I already sold my soul as a child to whatever voodoo my parents had me baptized into, so I've nothing left to purchase any iproducts with.

Line is a hugely popular messaging/phone call app in Japan and other parts of Asia. It has grown to 100,000,000 users in like 3 years or so.

It seems like almost everyone with a smart phone is using it.

Yes, you don't need an Apple product to use it as it's available on android as well. I feel like you guys never had issues finding Japanese friends to speak with, as most of them prefer to communicate over LINE.

Erm, is LINE in any way different than WhatsApp?? I don't get the difference.

I don't know specifically about WhatsApp, but I think there are a lot of apps that are very similar. Line just seems to be the one that experienced tremendous growth in Japan and is spreading out through Asia.

LINE has stamps and きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅさん.

Most importantly people here actually use LINE. It's referenced on TV, variety shows, and its a common way for smartphone users to trade contact information thanks to the lack of IR on Apple devices. Until today I had never heard of WhatsApp and had to google it.

It's the same but has cute icons, so is more popular in Asia.

I can confirm LINE is pretty huge in Taiwan, everyone here uses it (no one knows about Whatsapp).

I made the LINE Cafe group. The name is 「コーヒー喫茶店」 and you should see me, Vinchenzo, as the admin. Let me know if there are any problems finding it. Just me in this group as of now so it's a bit lonely...

I had LINE istalled on my iPhone for a brief time when a friend used it. She quit using deleted it due to lack of use. I'm glad I can talk to ppl again I'm downloading now ^_^

You search for it on the main page, and then when you're on the group page you can click on the top right. It'll bring up some options and one should allow you to join the group.

Edit: I'm hoping you downloaded LINE Cafe as well. It's a separate app from LINE and you made it sound like all you did was redownload LINE.

I've just joined, too. I'm "御茶碗".
It seems it'll be a great group.

LINE or LINE Cafe? They are both separate apps, although you can sign into LINE Cafe with your LINE account. Basically LINE is a messenger (text, pics, calling). LINE Cafe is like Facebook if Facebook was just groups that people joined and discussed stuff, depending on what the group is about.
