Looking for a little help on this sentence...

#1
Hey everyone, I'm a pretty new student of Japanese, about one year now. I've been trying to create sentences but I'm a little stuck on one. What I came up with was this:
I went to school and studied for a test at the library.
My translation was:
Gakkou ni itte, toshokan de skiken no tameno benkyoushimasu.

Problem is, it doesn't seem quite right. I think I'm doing something wrong with the tameno/ tameni section. Also, I'm trying to keep it formal, hence the -masu.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

It is tame ni.
Tame no is used when it is a noun for the sake of something (A book for the purpose of helping children -> 子供を助けられるのための本), I can't really think of any exceptions to that.

Also, it's べんきょうしていました、or at least べんきょうしました since it's in the past tense.
