Meh, it's a gimmick to sell phones. The real advancements for this to work need to be made on the AI level, not on the interface and marketing level.

It looks interesting, though aside from rendering certain kanji into kana, and highlighting titles and stuff, what does it do?
For learners such as myself, I find it easier to read a sentence structure with kanji as opposed to "simplifying" the kanji into kana. I'm looking at this the wrong way, aren't I?

From watching the video, it appears that certain articles in the paper will be marked by a blue outline which would indicate it is compatible with the app. Apparently there must be some sort of marking on it which allows it to retrieve a "kid friendly" version of the article from a server somewhere. I think the articles are probably completely re-written by someone.
