Recently I started a thread on 4chan's /sci/ seeing if anyone would be interested in joining me in some extra curricular study activities and had a positive reaction, so I set up this Google group. Currently we're standing at 4 members, so we're trying to get a few more people before starting and I thought maybe some people here would be interested

Currently the plan is to go through the undergraduate level text Electrodynamics (3rd ed.) by Griffiths together (over at most 6 months time) and then move onto (or concurrently study) other topics depending on demand and whether there's someone who's prepared to direct the course. eg. fluid mechanics, signal processing, quantum mechanics, numerical solution of PDEs, whatever (more details in the general meta thread). For example, I will be starting studying Optimal Filtering (Anderson)/Optimal Control and Estimation (Stengel) soon by myself and would be happy to start a mini group for those if anyone wanted to join me.
My general hopes are to create an online community that can emulate the support aspects of attending a university, for people who either want to learn things outside their course's syllabus or don't have access to that kind of environment altogether. Each week in each sub-group we will read a certain portion of the text, discuss issues/insights faced and perhaps solve problems together (unfortunately there is currently no Latex support but this can wait for now).
