Can no longer download anything.




Any ideas?

Not every story is in the podcast, but in the first minutes of the podcast they tell which stories are going to be covered.

Hey, say if I suddenly OMG-had-to-go-to-Japan in about 2 months time, and I was almost completely devoid of any JP listening skills... what would you recommend?

I don't have to (probably a good thing at this point in time) but I'm willing to work like I really was. I have an iPod now so 24 hours a day is possible.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously 'listening' is pretty much the only thing I can do, BUT I'd like to listen to the most useful things as possible. I'm going into this blind really, I've downloaded free Podcasts from the iTunes store (Junk Zero, Junk (...something else) and the Yomiuri news podcast).

But there's things I'd really like to know. For instance,

Naturally, I don't understand everything that's going on. I'm only picking out phrases every now and then. In other words I may as well be listening to any piece of Japanese. To save time getting more podcasts should I just listen to these same ones over and over again until I understand them, then move on?

Do I actually have to do anything other than press play? If I keep listening will I one day be able to comprehend what's being said?

When I'm reading JP text I'll often find words I don't know, will need to read a sentence twice to understand properly and certainly don't go at the same speed as if it were being said. This can be quite disheartening for when I start listening because it's like 'well I'll definitely not get this' etc.. What do you think/recommend about this?

I found a plan on AJATT where you take the Yomiuri news podcast, read about the respective stories on the site, taking words you don't know and putting them into your SRS, then they'll bounce off each other until you understand the news. I'd love to understand the news as much as the next guy but it's not priority - I'd rather learn your average, everyday life speech. Will the news help with this anyway? Also, the first question (should I repeat until I understand, then move on) applies to this as well.

Online サウンドドラマ called "Replica Blue". From the first episode, it sounds like a sci-fi mystery with some personal drama between a group of kids.

For the record, this is an absolutely awesome sound drama. I've probably listened to each of the first ten episodes 10 or 20 times each and haven't gotten bored. The first time can be a bit rough, but usually by the second time through I can understand almost all of the episode. The story is really captivating.

has a 24/7 stream with hymns, sermons, and spoken word. Before a friend gave me that link I was finding it very hard to find Christian music in Japanese.
