Hey guys,
just an update... I've tested this as much as possible (well, not enough really!) under Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) and Windows 7 and it all seems to working ok on those systems. I don't have a Mac to test it on so it looks like there are some bugs on Mac that users are experiencing.
Just really interested to know if anyone (as well as Linux and Windows users) has downloaded it and given it a try? Is everything working? I'm quite nervous about this... been working really hard on it and like I said, i've tested it as much as possible so I know it works well on both my Ubuntu and my Windows 7 box but without a full test suite it's impossible to know if there are issues on other systems... so I NEED FEEDBACK!

Thank you so much!
I hope it works well for you. Also let me know if you have any feature requests or anything. I'm planning on actively developing it for the next 12 months to turn it into a really awesome study tool.
Planning on releasing weekly updates too.
Got some features planned like adding in Kanji stats and JLPT vocab lists by level so you can see how much you do and don't know out of what levels. Possibly do the same for KanKen with the Kanji as well.
Like I said, if you think of any features you want/need just let me know and if I can manage to include then I absolutely will.
This community helped me out so much when I was learning Japanese I just wanna give back as much as possible.
Thanks guys.

Really love the idea. Going to check it asap after I get home and have some sleep. Kudos for the effort. : )

I have tried on a Mac, but could not import a test mp3 file into the database. The file/import dialog opens but, when I select the .mp3 file and click "choose", nothing appears in the main window.
What am I doing wrong ?…

I haven't had a chance to test on Mac yet as I don't have access to one so thanks for the feedback. I'll be able to gain access to a Mac in the next week or two to work out any bugs it may have there.
I can think of one thing that may possibly be happening. It's a known bug that I'm going to fix in the next release. If you try to import an mp3 with no id3 tags it wont import correctly so it could possibly be that? Will definitely fix that bug in the next release.
Did you try importing other files?

Tried it on OSX, can't open stuff with id3 tags.
I guess depending on your moral stance, you could try running OSX in a VM for testing purposes. Not sure how well it runs or how easy it is to set up, though.

Thanks! Working stable now, and looking good.
One suggestion I have is regarding "Find lyrics online" Is it possible to use google from the country whose language you're learning. Using the button I only get Chinese translations of the lyrics, not the Japanese. I've tried it with Japanese songs of course. After googling it manually on google.co.jp the first hit were the correct Japanese lyrics.
Second would be FLAC support, but I don't know how hard that is to add.
Otherwise good work, looking forward to any further updates : )

Just released a new update. 1.1.2.4!
Now includes rikai-chan style mouse over look ups of known words you've added to your wordlist. Also you can now add a reading for the example sentence (don't know why I didn't think to add it the first time).
I've been using this to study Chinese for the last week. Fantastic for building a vocab and sentence deck simultaneous as it works in perfect with Anki.
Feels much more complete now with the rikai-chan style look ups feature in there too now!!!

I don't know if it's because I'm running windows 8 or not (I had thought it was backwards compatible...?), but I haven't been able to make the player work properly. I tried adding many mp3s but only managed to get about half of an album to read (the first half of the album was mp4s, so it's not the player's fault).
Looking at this thread, I thought I'd mess around with id3 tags to see if that would work, so I removed the tags on a few mp3s, and then I could play them... but they were all called "UNKNOWN" and it was impossible to edit their information in the player. Also, I could only keep one song per language.
I'm going to break out my laptop in the near future to see if it's a problem with my files or my OS.
Anyway, it's been great for the songs I have got to work, and I'm looking for to using it a lot more when it will work on my computer.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah! Mp4 isn't currently supported.
Also, I will get round to fixing the problem with "UNKNOWN" tags. This is a known bug and happens when something either doesn't have id3tags or is missing a bit of data from them. Anyways, it's not so hard for me to fix and I'll probably try to push out an update this weekend.
I've been super busy with lots of stuff recently but I'll try to include some more stuff in the update that's related to Japanese in particular. Specifically Kanji stats and the like!
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for the support!
