JLPT 3 Vocabulary Memorization Help

#1
All,

I am currently studying for the JLPT3 exam and would like some advice on vocab memorization.

In short, I can't seem to figure out an efficient way to memorize vocab. Every flash card deck I have found out there (Anki specifically) includes the words only, and no example sentences. This makes learning vocab PAINFULLY boring and PAINFULLY difficult because without context, the words just look like a bunch of characters thrown together that I am just trying to cram in my head. This doesn't even include the high potential for misusing a word..

I bought a book which includes some accompanying sentences, but getting this information into Anki is a SUPER pain (have to type it all). I can't seem to find an electronic equivalent out there that I can copy/paste into my SRS.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks in advance for any help!

You can find example sentences from http://tatoeba.org/eng/

That way you can just copy/paste. Hope this helps Smile

Anki 1 had the Tatoeba plugin, which was just lovely. I'm sure it'll get ported to anki 2 at some point. Or at least I hope ^^.

http://dic.yahoo.co.jp/ (和英) provides a lot of example sentences. Another good resource is http://www.alc.co.jp/.

The vocabulary on that test is incredibly common words used in daily conversation so I recommend immersion. Watch/ read stuff in Japanese that you enjoy

Going through the Core6k Anki deck should provide a solid vocabulary base to branch out into native media, provided your grammar understanding is not entirely without some foundation.

Cool..everyone thanks for the responses. I guess I was hoping to hear that somebody had already made a deck similar to what I am looking for.

Right now my best option (I think) is to programmatically merge the sentences and audio from the Core6k deck into a new deck by using the vocab from a JLPT deck as the key. Should give me what I am looking for...

Thanks again.
