Some applets work well on linux netbooks once you have the MIT Curl plugin from Tokyo's SCSK Corp. ( http://www.curl.com ENG http://www.curlap.com Nihon-go )
Curl is arguably safer than Java or Flash plugins for Mac, Win and many Linux.
I will be using Curl CAEDE (Maple - kaede) to build kanji mnemonics app's for iOS and Android. Usually I have a Heisig version as well as the "other H" - and for T. flashcards - most often using kanjidic2 and jdict2.
