NHK News Easy

#26
Guess I've found my start page for Chrome Smile I also took all those articles buonaparte posted and go through each of them (listening, reading and listening+reading). Got to massively increase my reading speed and listening comprehension before N2...

Have you seen any example 読解 questions before? I was reading regular NHK news for a while before taking the test, but the reading still seemed pretty brutal given the time limit. I agree that newspapers are pretty tough, but online news seems to be far more digestible - look at the length of the stories on the main NHK news site. The version you posted does seem pretty great for people of a lower level, and I would've been greatful for this link a few years ago, but for someone studying for N1, it could lead to laziness or underestimating the test - there's no furigana or simplified expressions in N1. Seems like a good resource in any case, and hopefully it's successful.
My main reading practice for the old level 1 was PS2 Japanese RPG video games; it was a pretty big volume of no-furigana text that had audio along with a lot of it, and I was interested in it.

Thanks for the site, Fav'd. I wanted to get more listening / reading comprehension, so this site is good. I usually read Game articles, but sadly there's no audio for listening..
This is the website i often visit to get my reading input.

@buonaparte

Do you know how to extract those streaming videos with audio from the NHK News Web Easy site. I googled and searched through a lot of websites but I can't seem to find any way to do it. Any help would be greatly helpful regarding the method of extraction of videos from that website.

Thanks in advance.

The video clips are not simplified - they come from http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/.
You can download them with Replay Media Catcher.
The simplified news are the mp3 files (audio only). You can download them with OrbitDownloader or... check Temporary Internet Files (it's Internet Explorer's cache) and copy them from there.
