Half way!

Not all his posts are heretical. I just looked at his last few. None were as antagonistic and spiteful as the one above.

Still, he wasn't insulting anyone in particular, just the system itself. That he could just use Anki or maybe "Not Scroll Down" ™ the screen to see the other stories when re-studying missed cards is besides the point I guess.
I don't necessarily view heretical rants as a bad thing, and the advice to ignore them could well be served with my rants as well, the heretic I am.

Actually, I like the system. The spacing system that sorts the cards into piles is also particualarly nice.

I just don't like seeing other stories when I already have a story. They get all muddled up in my head then.

I also think it's best to come up with your own story when it comes naturally enough.

AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

A heretic! Run, fetch the mob!!!!! I'll get the pitchforks and the gasolene!

astendra Wrote:Woot! Lesson 27 done; I am half-way! Breaking the 1000 mark felt surprisingly good. Nevertheless, this wouldn't have been possible without this wonderful site. My thanks go out to all who have gone before and shared their stories.

Now, if only I can keep this pace, I'll be done in about 3 weeks. It'll be rough, starting with ~200 reviews tomorrow, but I can't stop now, right?
Congratulations, keep it up. I feel your pain, I just reviewed 100 kanji so I have that to review tomorrow and my regular reviews which might total over 200!

*relief* I just hit the HALF WAY POINT! I just learned 100 kanji to get here . Thank you to everyone for the sentences and also for the motivation I have found on the forums. Congrats to every one who finally made it half way. I guess I am half way to reading all the news papers that are plastered along my wall .

I'm here approximately 8 months later than I wanted to be, but I'm here at last! I took an 8 month gap when I hit 800 for some reason. However, over the past week or two I've got back into the swing, and I've just hit 1021. I'm definitely not going to stop this time Big Grin

I have been evading my reps for about 10 days. It went from 400 to 800!
Today I had 850 cards waiting for me plus the 200 in the red.
in an hour I completed 171 of them with 89% accuracy. So I guess I might be able to complete all the cards after all. I now have 553 cards left to go. That should take 3 and a half hours. XD I guess I should have started earlier.

Restarted about a month ago and just finished lesson 27. Think I'm going to go all the way this time - about time!

Congratulations to everyone! I'm currently up to frame 1142, so I've officially hit the halfway mark. I have to admit that it's sort of bittersweet because... on the one hand, I have studied the writing of over 1000 kanji! Before I heard about RTK, I tried doing it the old-fashioned way (writing out kanji by hand over and over) and I literally didn't last one day. It was too frustrating and so I set it aside, thinking I would have to tackle kanji a few years out when I was more solid in other areas.

Then I came across the AJATT site, heard about RTK, found this site, and here I am! I could not have done it without this site – everyone’s stories have been a great help (and a great laugh), and the integrated SRS is a lifesaver. I’ve introduced my brother to RTK and he’s now on frame 100+.

So that’s all good, but… on the other hand, it feels like I’ve been plugging away at this for quite some time, and though I’m 1000 kanji in, I’m only halfway there. It’s like having to go through the whole process one more time. At this point I feel the challenge is mental – to just keep plugging away at it regardless of how slowly it seems to be going, and how anxious I am to finish.

I’m doing it slow and steady at 12 a day, because anymore would probably mean I wasn’t taking the time to seal in the stories and would lead to a high daily review count (just speaking for myself, my personality, my schedule – I’m studying other aspects of Japanese as well as Korean and working full-time. I also value having time to just veg out). I used to add kanji 3-5 days a week and try to review every day; since I’ve reached 1000 I’ve upped it to 13-15 kanji every day of the week. I need to do a minimum of 12 a day, 3 days per week to reach my goal, which is to finish RTK by the end of this year. If I keep up my increased pace I would finish in June (which still seems so far away), but… we’ll see.

I can already see the benefits… more and more kanji are recognizable to me as I slog my way through native Japanese materials; I look up a word I previously knew by hiragana only, see the kanji, and go – hey! I know how to write that! I learn how to write a character in RTK and that same day I see it used in FFXIII. RTK is worth finishing. I just have to keep my head down and do my 12-15 per day until I reach the finish line.

Good luck to all of us!

Don't worry, mgbp7. The second half is really easier. It feels like you're going downhill and because you have the hang of adding/making up stories/reviewing now, it will all go much faster. Smile

Phew!

It took me half a year (way longer than I planned), but I've now finished lesson 28. I was really rolling in the beginning (reached 400 in one week), then other distractions of life came and adding new kanji eventually slowed down to a full stop for a few months (although I still was reviewing existing ones almost daily).

Keywords started to get mixed up around 700 and just keeping up with the reviewing schedule took most of the time reserved for this project. The last two months I've only added around 200 kanji to the deck, but I'll try to increase the tempo for March and see where I end up at by the end of the month.

Yahoo!! After two weeks of intense full-time study I just finished lesson 27. I have to say the "Mr. T" kanji were so much more enjoyable than some of the ones in earlier lessons, since the component key words seemed to relate more to the meaning of the kanji. Plus of course Mr. T is such a colorful figure (although I must admit never having seen the A-Team program).

I sure hope it really is all downhill from here! I'm pooped.

I also finished lesson 27 just moments ago. Phew. It's been 20 days since I started RTK and so far I'm pretty pleased with my progress. 漢字 have become a drug to me. I'm aiming to complete the book in April. To celebrate my milestone I'm currently listening to some mandarin melodies by Soft Lipa ! Damn, his songs are addicting.

Mine is the alphanumeric, lowercase surname of a unisex anagrammatic pseudonym that's missing the first name's initial here. I suppose I'll stick with my smurfing alias, ruiner. Else it'll be like running into someone on the street that's driving the same make and model vehicle as you! Awkward. Do we nod to each other, pretend we don't see each other, what?? ;p

It doesn't have to be a problem. Let's pretend we are twins. I can be the evil one. It'll be much easier that way and cause less headaches for both of us. ;D

I'm slightly more than halfway, after flirting with RTK Lite for about a month and then finishing up the difference tonight. I'm going to finish this before the 16th, even if it means chugging out more than 100 a day. I'm on spring break, and my original goal was to get it done this week, but I've been too lazy the last few days.

I don't *hate* RTK right now, but sometimes I'm tempted to flush it down the toilet. I mean, hillock? Seriously?

Finally half way again. Although I have to say that I started doing RTKLite after completing the first 700 or so again. That means I'm at about number 1500+. Feels better actually.

1085! I got mired in the late 700s and early 800s and slowed down to a rate of only two or three new kanji a day, but as I began to inch closer to the thousand mark, I got something of a shot in the arm. I'd still like to be finished by the end of summer, but I flip so rapidly between loving kanji and despising them that I've learned not to expect anything. Just got to keep soldiering on!
