so far ive done the first 80 frames in rtk1

Ive decided to switch too the movie method too learn onyomi and writings together.

I do not know if he primitive keywords in nukemarines list, which he put in a zip with some other files in his blog for public use, are the same as the ones in rtk1 but im assuming they are. looks like it from what ive seen so far

I haven't made any of my own stories yet in rtk so im not sure how too do that

I think i got most of this worked out, just need a little confirmation, sugguestions and advice from people with experiance.

questions:
a. for learning the primitives, should I just learn them with the rtk1 book?
or would it be better just to learn them from the list provided by nukemarine
b. if i should learn from marine's list, How do i learn them? in rtk he had premade stories for you and im not sure how too make my own.
c. what does the story need too contain for the primitives?
(assuming keyword and lower primitive keywords)
d. what does the story need too contain for the onyomi movie
(assuming primitive keywords, scene from movie you linked that onyomi
too, and the keyword)
e. how did you learn the kanji and readings?
f. what tidbits of advice would you have for someone starting learning the
kanji?

A question: if you learn RtK1 and the on-yomi readings at the same time, what's the difference of Heisig's method to the plain-stupid drilling method at Japanese schools then? I don't see any sense in you doing the RTK1 method parallely to the movie method - or did I misunderstood something?
Finish off the first volume of the book first, that's enough work. It will get you used to kanji, their writings and their general meanings. In the second step you should learn compounds, i.e. vocabularies, and their readings. Some kanjis in RTK have also on-yomi, but they rarely appear and only their kun-yomi gets used (commonly). Everyone has their own way of studying but it sounds like you want to learn primitives separately from everything else thinking you would understand RTK better. They change as you go. If its true,I say nay.

answer:
the difference would be breaking down the kanji into primitives and associating a mnemonic story/image/movie with the kanji and meaning

few facts:
a. ive using japanesepod101.com too learn speaking and listening
b. i can write katakana and hirigana i wanted to learn the kanji so i could add kanji too sentances i write.

Ive decided just too finish up rtk1 and then learning the readings as I see the kanji in the future through reading and listening to my podcasts with written transcripts.

I wouldn't say kanji are a "torture". You just have the "writing (stroke order/radicals/primitives), reading (on/kun-yomi, compounds, mixed readings, rare readings) and meaning (what do the strokes and dots want to tell me?)" problem.

Anyway, I just can assure you that Heisig is the right method to learn kanji and that you should stick to it, just do it, don't think to much about it, just do it, get through it and then, like some are saying "start learn Japanese". RTK1 is virtually a preparation what awaits you really. With me, finishing the first book, I kind of proofed I will continue learning Japanese after having accomplished something as great as 2042 kanji! So be serious about Japanese, otherwise RTK is just a huge waste of time, if you dump Japanese after a while anyway. RTK costs nerves, time - but has it's effect and makes you benefit from it, definitely.

I just realized I need to stop worrying about the how
and just do it. others already thought out the how for me.
so this is the last time ill look at this forum till ive made some real progress.

Have a great time and lots of successes during your progress! It's just so amazing how Heisig works, or at least, worked on me. Afterwards you just will think: that's it? Yeah, that's kanji. Not mystified, nothing. Just strokes and dots starting to make sense. Thousands of users succeeded and you will also. Start ahead~ We'll see us next when you're at 500

It doesn't hurt to put a bit of (independent) thought into things either.
I personally get tired of people on the forum asking for the recipe for THE perfect or approved way of doing things. It is very helpful to get ideas and advice, but different things may work for you, depending on the stage you are at, your style of learning, interests and priorities, available time and other factors. Just because a tool works, that doesn't mean that further development, fine-tuning, evolution and adaption may not have a place.

For myself, I went through RTK1 and then went on to a movie method approach and that has worked OK. However, if I'd thought of it as an option at the beginning, I might have tried something similar to what you mentioned.
