辻 (279) I'm confused about no. of drops!

#1
Can anyone help me? This site's flashcard for 辻, and WWWJDIC for 辻 both have "crossing" with two drops, while RTK has this kanji written with just one. Is one of them wrong, or what?

(The Yamasa online kanji dictionary doesn't have it.)

It can be written with either one or two drops, there is no right or wrong. In your browser you are getting to see either one or two drops. In Firefox you see two, in Internet Explorer you would see only one. It has to do with the font display, so don't worry, either one is ok.

I also came to this kanji. And I just want to point out that on study page this kanji has 2 drops. But the problem is number of strokes written underneath is [5]. Somebody could be confused by this also, so maybe it should be corrected since there is a new version of this kanji. Or some people still get this kanji with 1 drop in their browsers?

The number of drops people see depends on which font is installed on their system.

This has to be one of the most (if not *the* most) asked questions on the forum; we should probably develop a brief board FAQ that answers some of these commonly asked questions.

(Incidentally, I would be very surprised if Japanese people start writing all the non-Jouyou kanji with these elements differently from the Jouyou kanji. I think that was a ridiculous decision by the monkasho to declare the old forms the official ones.)
