If you open it with something like notepad++ (open source) and choose shift-jis as encoding, it works. By the by, did you notice my (BROKEN LINK) post in the Hanzi thread?

Is the J-Eallign broken for everyone else too? It looks really convenient but it's not displaying the Japanese portion in Japanese. It's more of a broken code

1. You don't say what content you are referring to, so you are making it harder for people who actually might be able to help you.
2. How much do you know about text encodings? (Not much? Care to use google? For example: japanese text encodings)

This is what I see any time I try to access any content from the !J-Ealign directory that was posted inside of his original L-R post. These are all html documents. If there is anything else I should share please let me know, as this is not my area of expertise.

Definitely looks like encoding issue.

You need to find in your browser the way to change "Character enchoding", for example in my Firefox it's under: Tools>Web Developer>Character Encoding. Then select one of:
Unicode
Japanese (EUC-JP)
Japanese (ISO-2022-JP)
Japanese (Shift_JIS)

One of those should work.

It should be shift-JIS, but it's a Flash issue, or in fact, an error by the Flash coders. See for instance http://dl.gov-online.go.jp/public_html/g...n.subtitle in notepad++ or a similar text editor that supports multiple encodings --- it's just a special kind of text file in shift-JIS format.

Maybe if you could convince Adobe Flash player to use that encoding it'd work. To that end you could try to set your 'locale' to Japanese/shift-JIS if that's possible, but I didn't really investigate into it. I just googled and found http://www.adobe.com/support/documentati...hort7.html . Or you could kindly ask the site admins to switch to Unicode
