Kinda recent

ホタルの光 1 & 2
日本人の知らない日本語
Joker Yurusarezaru Sosakan - I got bored with it after a while though.

Not so recent
君犯人じゃないよね
33分探偵
小公女セイラ - light but not all that happy.
正義の味方
夢をかなえる象

I've been off the nihongo juice lately, so the only show I've looked at this season is SPEC.

I'm watching Q10 at the moment and it seems to sound sort of like what your looking for. Of course there are Japanese subs out as well.

I don't know anything that's happy or funny. Everything is depressing and sad and makes me teary-eyed.

A comedy movie I liked recently is Handsome Suit. It's kinda old, came out in 2008. I saw it on the plane ride, haha.

For dramas I'm watching Reinoryokusha Odagiri Kyoko. It's mostly funny but some of the stories make my eyes watery.

I tried watching Q10 but I don't like robo-Maeda Atsuko. I can't take her seriously.

Watching it too, it's ok, but is it odd I'm liking the subplot between Kawai and **** ? (forgot his name..grr.. kid with the camera)
Funny in places.
and Having Atsuko Maeda, the kid from The last samurai and Mayuko Fukuda in it is also a bonus.

I haven't seen much drama but out of those I have seen, ごくせん and パズル are both pretty light-hearted most of the time, and both funny. ごくせん is the better of the two, but also really famous I think so you've probably seen it.

(゜Д゜) ハア?? Are you seriously saying that this is a HAPPY drama???????!!!
NOT AT ALL! Or maybe you got the wrong drama, because I thought it was the best drama of the season and very exciting and sad (or rather there were a lot of parts that made you angry).
So, not light and happy at all!

Oh yah, that one was hilarious! *g*

Some happy/funny dramas for amusement that I can think of right now are:

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)
Gokusen (only season 1, though, I guess ..)
Water Boys
Attention Please
Densha Otoko
My Boss, My Hero (hilarious)
Kisarazu Cat's Eye
Nodame Cantabile
Bambino
Hanakimi
Sushi Ouji
Stand Up

Just noticed that I haven't watched too many happy dramas lately (Seigi no Mikata being the exception).

Welcome to MY world. MUHAHAHAHAH!!!!! infinity

I chose it because there were some funny scenes in it, though I didn't find it particularly NOT light.

@Fabrice

Interesting. Perhaps she should have simply said comedy.

I'd say ドラゴン桜 cos it's not about love so it's not really sad at all. It's about study so it's often really serious and intense haha. Overall it's one of my favourites.

I recommend あんどーなつ. Short series about a girl who wants to become a traditional Japanese dessert maker. Definitely on the lighter side - at least I thought so - and there are plenty of mouthwatering shots of the desserts being made. Smile

Linda Linda Linda.

It's a movie, and pretty cute/funny - about a group of high school girls who decided to form a Blue Hearts tribute band for their school music festival. Not a massive amount happens, but good view of Japanese teenage life and it made me laugh quite a bit.

Yeah, jdorama haven't reached the level of schizoid genre-blending perfection the way kdramas have, shifting from physical humour to mucus-laden tears and back again in an instant.

I'm watching Rain's new kdrama Fugitive: Plan B recently; I really like it. There's a lot of Japanese in it as well, subtitled in Korean, sometimes entire scenes.
