I have some errors and suggestions for Characterizer:
First, when I go to view the sample profile, nothing happens when I click on the link.
Second, I cannot add a new profile that I or others have created. I get this error when I try:
[JavaScript-program]
TypeError:
Components.classes['@Mozilla.org/extensions/manager;1'] is undefined
However, editing in existing profiles or removing existing profiles still works. I'm running Firefox 17.0.1 on Mac OSX 10.8.2 and I have the update from here installed:
http://xul.addons.free.fr/characterize/
The other thing is that I have two features to suggest:
The first is a "export profile" option, so we can more easily share/mass edit our profiles.
The second is some sort of option where you can hover over the kanji and see the original English word, or more preferably, some sort of editable note for each kanji. That way when you hover over a kanji you can't remember, you can see its meaning (or any other notes, such as alternative kanji or usage) without having to actually turn Characterizer off for the whole page. This notes feature I think would be really useful for when learning other languages. I know you have the add-on mostly in mind for Japanese and Chinese, but especially if these other two bugs get fixed and you add some kind of additional note feature, it would also be extremely, extremely useful for languages that are more complicated in various ways (since you'd be able to make a note for genders or cases etc).
Of course, the most pressing feature that needs to be fixed is the import option, because as if now even if I do make my own profile I can't actually use it. A workaround for not being able to export would just be using a different firefox add-on to export the whole add-on, then de-compress it and grab your edited profile from there.
