What kind of headphones do you use?

#1
I was just wondering what kind of headphones you guys are currently using and give a recommendation of what I've been using for several months now.

These are the bad-boys that I have been using lately (Tritton AX Pro 5.1): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6826235005

I use it with a Turtle Beach sound card with digital output (optical) with these C-Media drivers (The stock drivers are pure crap but the C-Media drivers will blow you away) : http://www.cmedia.com.tw/drivers.html

This combination has given me the best sound quality that I have ever heard out of anything before... it's unreal... my wife says it's like being there in a concert when she listens to it. You guys should check it out if you are looking for some headphones.

I've used V-Moda Roxx until they broke. They look like they're indestructible, but they break after 6 month of heavy use. I've owned 2 pairs. The second was a warranty replacement, I didn't bother with a 3rd. I bought them because they're small and with a good source (media/hardware) they sound better then anything I tried in the 100-250 range.

I use the Bose on-ear headphones. I know a lot of people don't care for that company because they focus too much on marketing and hype, but after eliminating earbuds (don't want things stuck in my ear), around-the-ear styles (too bulky) and noise-canceling headphones (eat batteries and I don't spend much time on airplanes and trains) they seemed like the best set.

My criteria may not be for everyone though. If you want to listen at home and really immerse yourself in music, around-the-ear is the way to go. But if you listen at work/walking/shopping/whatever and want to maintain some awareness of your surroundings instead of being isolated from them, earbuds or on-ear headphones are nice.

The sound quality and comfort have been really good. Price was on the high side, but I've been using them for a couple years and not regretted the purchase.

I use JBL Reference 610 Wireless headphones. They´re great, come with lots of acessories, and they´re stylish, unlike most headphones that just seem huge and ugly. The good thing is that they´re bluetooth, so i can use them with my laptop while washing the dishes or going to the bathroom. They come with a wire in case you want to use them like cord heaphones, which also makes the sound quality better obviously. Really happy with these, especially because the cost me less than 60 dollars on ebay=).

I bought cheap 15 dollar headphones at Princess Auto and they've been with me ever since. I also have a more expensive gaming headphones set, but I barely find myself using it because I spend more time studying than gaming nowadays..

Inland USB/Battery Powered Bass Vibration 6000 Headset:

They're cheap, comfortable and work great. The only issue I have with them is there's no noise cancelling for the mic, but at $23 you can only ask for so much. =P The bass vibration is nice when listening to music, and the cord is decently long at 8', but they're not exactly portable as the mic doesn't detach and if used for just headphones there'd be a plug hanging loose (the mic one).

Seems like the perfect place for my problem :
I endeavor to listen japanese on my Ipod each time I go out and as long it s j-music it s fine . But when it comes to ripped japanese dubbed movie soundtrack it s not that easy Xilisoft DVD ripper does rip the soundtrack but depending on the movie the volume is different : It really delivers the goods for a couple of movie like Sin city or men in black but for most movies like dark knight , while in a normal background I can hear the dialogue crystal clear, as soon as there is a bit of traffic / I walk into the subway it s near to impossible to make sense of what they say.

I went to bic camera and they showed me a specificaly IPod designed amplifier....except it twists the sound ..... actually I have a better sound without using it .
So I was thinking buying a new set of headphones .... do you guys have any recommendations ?I need something powerful enough to allow me to listen my movies whatever the noise may be.

The headphones i talked about earlier were specifically made for ipod, they came with a wireless ipod adapter, but they work with most bluetooth devices. They have a volume, play and stop, rewind and foward buttons on the ear cup. When i use them with my laptop, when i want the volume louder i just press the + button, the sound is independent from windows volume, so i guess it should be too on ipod. They can get really loud, and i never needed to put them on maximum, and i don´t plan to, or my head might explode=P. Plus they´re wireless if you want them to be.

I got DT990s with chaintech AV710s. I used to use ASIO on my pc but its a pain to setup.

Personally, all 5.1 sort of headphones are a joke among hardcore headphone enthusiasts, check out head-fi.org for starters

Sony smth or other. They suck. The plastic headband makes the top of my head hurt within a few minutes.

I use a pair of Shure E2C with my ipod though.

Sennheiser HD580's with Cardas cable running out of a Little Dot MKV solid state amp with Home Grown Audio silver analog connectors running from my Oppo Digital player. If you've never heard a good headphone setup it will blow your mind.

And when I'm not using that I have a pair of $10 Sony's, go figure lol.

A pair of Samsung bluetooth headphones. OK for a while but eventually they dig into the top of your ears =(

lol. I usually wonder how much of that stuff is psychological, but I guess I can't naysay it till I've tried it. Forgot to mention I use Bang & Olufsen A8s (http://www.bang-olufsen.com/earphones) for my iPod when not using Grado SRs. I think it's time for upgrades, though. Maybe I'll wait till someone comes up with 7.1 hyperrealistic audio tours for all of Japan. 日本語 in synaesthetic 3D!

Felt modded JVC DX-3 powered from Compass DAC/Amp. Used to use JVC RX700 (Dynamat and felt mod), JVC RX900 (Dynamat with felt mod), A900, KSC-75 (Kramer modded), and two Sennheiser brands phones in a cabinet chained, locked, and stowed away into the seven seas to be cursed at by the gods themselves.

Portable use I still use JVC DX-3 with Cowon A2, only because full-sized cans are really all I use.

Next purchase? Possibly Audio-gd Reference 1 DAC if I can somehow scrounge up $1500 that is.

I have some Wireless Sennheiser's. But when I'm not using those, I'm using a $1 set I got at the gas station! (http://www.sennheiserusa.com/private_hea...headphones)

AKG K240 Sextett (late production) out of a starving student millet hybrid when I'm at my computer. These are old, but great. I like them better than the current K24x line, and I got them for a lot cheaper (used).
Grado SR-60 when I'm not at the comp.
qJays for on the go.

I was sooooooo tempted to get a 'cheap' pair of STAX when I was in Japan... sound amazing but I really shouldn't start spending that much money on cans T_T

I used to swear by Sennheiser PX100's. Amazing sound quality and comfort, but open back so not so good for audio on the move. Also I've had 3 pairs which have all broken (cable wears away).

I've now moved to Sennheiser HD201's. Cheap, great sound and they block out all external noise - I can finally listen to Japanese speech on the tube in the morning! Not quite as comfortable but I'm still getting used to them.

Sennheiser HD202 here. Definitely not for you if you are on the move, but it isolates the ambient noise very well.

Whatever you do, don't get your headphones at wal-mart. I've gone through every single type of headphones that are offered at my local wal-mart, and not a single pair has lasted me more than a month.
