Just out of curiosity, what is the greatest number of times that you've failed a single kanji? I was looking at the detailed list and the most I've failed a single on so far is 4 times. And I've done that with 3 of them.
I have this feeling that 4 times might be some kind of magic number. Heh.

達 at least 23 times. When it's soo close to becoming a mature card, I fail it.

I'm not quite to it yet... what's the story you're using? It looks like it has... er... several parts. Heh. The one I've failed the most is nitrate. But I think I've got it down now. Now, almost to 500 kanji, I'm really starting to feel the usefulness of an SRS.

Hmm, I'm curious to know what mine is. Is there a section in Anki or something that tells you (without having to look through each card and see?) I think for me among the most failed kanji would have to be 瓶 or 缶 for whatever reason

I've finished RtK1 and been doing just reviews for about a month and a half. I have 3 cards that i've failed 9 times. I keep mixing up little parts of them... I just haven't taken the time to sharpen those stories.

thedeo, your blog is pretty great. Which ones do you continuously fail?
I'm not sure in Anki, as I'm not gonna move onto Anki until I'm doing sentences, but on the site you just go to Review>Detailed List and then click "Fail" twice.
Here are the 3 I've missed 4 times: 万 (ten thousand),硝 (nitrate), and 河 (river). It just took longer for those stories to stick with me. Ten thousand I've almost rote memorized at this point I think. I remember that nitrate has a stone resemblance to some stone. And with enough drops of water you can make a river.

I failed 'clothing' 7 times, that's the only card with 7 fails, then under that there's three cards I failed 6 times. Seems like that's wrong, though, I was always changing up how strictly I graded myself. Well, doesn't matter now, I never review RTK cards anymore.

Most I have is three fails on 11 cards. 享 霜 適 撃 唆 常 伸 錯 矯 齢 献
But I stopped reviewing around 3 months after completing the book, and I've always been fairly lenient with myself on the grading anyway.

服 I kept failing because of that little hook I think (I kept forgetting it because of 飯), and also because I kept drawing the top hat/scarf.

Oddly enough, the character I continually fail is 敗 (failure).
I have no idea, and no way of determining, how many times I have failed with it. But every time it came up for review I missed it the first time. Finally I changed my story to one of 'failing this character' and from then on it stuck.

Three times failing 'guidance'. After that, I got annoyed with the thing, and stuck a post-it note with it on to my door, so I'd see it frequently, which seems to have worked.
I'm doing that with any tricky ones now, especially those with similar keywords (admonish, chastise, rebuke), as that's my main reason for failing a Kanji (that and mixing up the order of primitives >_<).

Hi, I'm using Anki and my most failed Kanji has 39 repetitions and there are a lot of others with a high number. But its not so bad as it sounds, because I don't spend that much time on a single Kanji. Failing it 10 or 30 times doesn't make a great difference time wise. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to relearn failed Kanjis, so I'm failing them up to 5 times in a row (cycle elimination) until they stick for the first time. I think its still faster and reviews are like a breeze.

"skill" 3 fails
I usually get around 90% on new card tests and then usually don't fail again because I g back and jam the failed Kanji in real hard

Huh, my worst are 福 and 給, both 7 failures. I was expecting to have failed them more often than that (certainly it feels like they keep coming back again and again :-)). Then 扶 is 5 failures and nothing else is more than 4.

I noticed that kanji with poor stories but that I already know in context (like I already know words or compounds using them) I have no problem remembering, because I have at least a vague idea of the shape and then I can use this vague shape to recall the story in full.
In the long run, I guess that's how it's going to work for every kanji. Just recall the story when I'm not sure of the details.

端, it's the only kanji I've failed 4 times.
Don't really know why, guess I've been mixing it up with other kanji mainly. Since I learned that it's used in the word 途端 and 半端 I haven't had much of a problem though.

Most of the cards I continually fail are to mix-ups with the keywords. So I've started annotating my cards with parentheses. For example: secrecy (not wheat), in order to differentiate it from "secret". If I had done this from the begging my recall rate would have probably been 10% higher.

功 achievement
勤 diligence
I've failed both a total of 14 times. Both are now in box 7 though.
There was a thread where Fabrice listed the top missed kanji. Not sure where it's at.

I've having trouble with achievement too. It's just not sticking.
