Core decks vs extensive reading

First time I hear about Potplayer. Is it any better than VLC when it comes to adjusting off-sync subtitles? You have to hold down the button for quite a bit with VLC if the subs are off for more than a second or two.

Also, do you guys know if it allows you to adjust subs that are way off sync, like a full min or so? I tried watching an anime the other day, but the first episode was impossible to sync because the subs were 80 seconds off as a result of skipping the intro.
