Change from "Community" to ”喫茶店 (Koohi Lounge)", Lets extend that.

I have a google.com (English menus) and google.co.jp (Japanese menus) search bars for when I want to search in English or Japanese. gmail and maps (even for Japan) is English, and youtube+news is Japanese. It seems to change every few weeks too, but I don't touch anything.

Cookies are fun.

I wonder if it would be possible to manually edit the cookie from google to remove the japanese priority on results. Of course, that would still be too much effort for me, but it does annoy me that they aren't giving us the option when it seems it would be very easy to do so.

It might also be looking at system language too. I switch my system language pretty often, depending on what I'm doing. I use linux so it's fast, and firefox automatically changes to my user's default language. I have no idea if that's changing anything either. I'm not really too knowledgeable on computing for this kind of stuff (cookies, websites, etc).

I was surprised at first when I saw that "Community" had changed to 「喫茶店 (Koohii Lounge)」. As long as it's still clear what each category is, though, I don't see any drawbacks to having all of the categories labelled in both Japanese and English. Having more Japanese on the site sounds like it could help learners get more accustomed to using sites that are entirely in Japanese, providing the kind of reinforcement that Yonosa and nest0r were talking about while avoiding the possible problems that Tobberoth raised.

Oh and here's the link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6510

So far I've been having a blast learning new words and adding to my favourite sites. One quirk is that to replace HTML (which I do to make sure to change only specific items) is it seems to prefer keeping things to a minimum without losing item uniqueness, i.e. if you get no effect, try reducing the 'find' area to substitute to the most minimal brackets, e.g. ">text to be replaced</a>", etc. Also, selecting areas and doing 'view selection source' certainly helps.

Another add-on I use but haven't applied to language-learning is My Image Here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3811 -- Perhaps that would be useful for kanji-related things? *shrug*

I also found this add-on that converts Google Spreadsheets into FoxReplace lists? http://elliottandlara.com/babelfox/

Someone thought of using FoxReplace for language-learning before me: http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/for...19679&PN=1 - They must be brilliant! ;p
