I've been thinking about that kind of integration for a while already, definitely on the list of stuff to do

Yeah, furigana getting in the way like that is annoying. Short term I'm going to do a basic thing to hide it from the text, long term is support rendering it properly. Along with vertical text, proper implementation will require a custom text renderer which before doing I want to pick some more low hanging fruit.
