For kana only words, try pasting kana in both kanji and kana fields. You can always check on JDIC if they have that word recorded (I assume in your case they have since its fairly common) or if it shouldn't be spelled with kanji anyway (despite your kana version).
Look at なんだって, as kana (in both fields) it doesn't give any results but when you visit JDIC the word is recorded but with a marking 《何だって》. Now if you paste this kanji version into kanji field it will work.
