Let me take a look at the first link and explanation you posted. As for 合える, yeah that's what I should have written in the first place. I just didn't notice that when I finished typing. But other than that, it doesn't make much sense to me. I've seen verbs followed by 合う before, but this one here is really beyond me.
EDIT: I don't understand anything you said before "relative clause". I still resort to English explanations and terms for the most part, because it's very hard to understand something when the explanation makes things more confusing with tons of complex terminology. I'll try reading that part though, so thanks for the link (I'd never find that kind of stuff by myself lol).
