I don't quite understand this 捧げし. What's the purpose of this し right after the verb? Also, Is this 捧ぐ or 捧げる?

the し is 連体形 of 過去の助動詞「き」 so its like a relative clause ending in ～た which modifies a noun in modern grammar. 天に捧げた命

Does it make more sense if I tell you its 重ね合える (重ね合う) not 重ね会う?
