My advice, vebaev: stick with JFE. Genki is going to have the same problem, except it's more expensive and spread out over two volumes. Eventually they do start using more kanji in JFE so it does get easier to read. If you really like the book otherwise, the lack of kanji is only a small hurdle to get over.
