Also, if you're just trying to organize notes, Scrivener is pretty cool. A lot of people who write books for a living use it (or similar programs), because it's really good at organizing "chunks" of text into a document. The chunks can be any size you want, the program doesn't care, so you could write a book in any order you want. Or write a series of notes on, say, grammar, in any order you want, and then shuffle them around like index cards.
When you're done and want to print, you can either print from within the program, or generate a Word document and print that.
The only downside to Scrivener is that there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's really not that difficult. It took me about an hour or two to figure it out, and it also took me another 30 minutes or so to figure out how printing and formatting worked.

(The OSX version has a few extra features that haven't made it to the Win version yet, but I haven't noticed anything missing when I use the Win version.
