Well, concerning Kanji Koohii, the user submitted stories are "stories" (aka mnemonics using the component based approach). So the context is not the same as the component system itself. Since Koohii simply uses the Heisig system with his full approval, and we agreed not to cover the components separately, it doesn't encroach on the book in the same way that publishing another component based kanji method would.
So in theory someone could kind of guess the components by advancing through user submitted stories, but it's in no way as efficient or practical as simply buying the reference would.
TLDR I think the method itself, and the user submitted stories, regardless that they are user submitted, are different contexts.
