Anki on jailbroken iPhone

#1
I wanna be able to do my reviews everywhere and am in need of a new phone. Naturally I thought of the iPhone with its ability to run AnkiMini (http://ichi2.net/anki/ankimini/).

I would get the 'older' 3G, as I believe it is impossible to run on the 3GS yet and it'd be a money saver (though, granted still costly - in the Netherlands we get ripped off for this shit like there's no tomorrow. I read that the 3GS is only 99 bucks in the States where it's still 300 something euros with a one-year contract).

Anybody any experience and or better advice?

I realize there are quite a few threads on this topic already but seeing as this all changes so fast there was/were no real up-to-date info/opinions here on RevtK.

If you want to save money get a cheap phone and an ipod touch.

I personally am waiting for the ipod touch refresh which is 99% likely to come in September. But then will have to wait until after it is jailbroken to use AnkiMini, although the official Anki iPhone client might be out before it gets jailbroken.

Is anyone else having trouble with Anki Mini? I installed it a few days ago, and it doesn't open, just chucks me back to the home screen. On a iPhone 3G on the 3.0 firmware.

Typical? Insane? Both?
My co-worker showed me her cell phone statements for the last several months. The cheapest month was $309. She doesn't even use the Internet. It is all from texting and talking. I don't own a cell phone so I am not sure what a normal bill is. I have a MajicJack http://www.magicjack.com/2/?mid=307001&a=55959&s=
attached to my laptop I pay $20/year for. I had a Softback phone in Japan that was about ¥2,000 per month I mostly used to practice texting kanji but have no need for one back here.
How much are you guys paying for all these mobile study devises per month?

150 txt + 150 minutes of call + unlimited internet is 20 euros a month with a 2 year contract here in the NL.

Same here. Anki Mini was perfect in 2.0 but now that I installed 3.0 it doesn't work. I tried installing Anki mini again from Cydia, but it shows an error.

It's a known problem, but there is a workaround.

Quote:The workaround is to
open up safari and type in http://localhost:8000 into the address

The internet connection doesn't matter, http://localhost:8000 means connect to the server running on the ipod/iphone itself.
I'm not sure if you need to start the server yourself.

You could try this thread (it's long, I haven't read it)

Sorry, I can't help any more, I don't have an iphone or ipod touch.
