Japan TV IPTV set top box?

I just posted my 2016 study plan over on another thread, and mentioned Hulu Japan as one of my resources:

Hulu hates VPNs; which one are you using that they haven't found yet?

I had to search a bit to find the right VPN provider, but in the end found IronSocket. The obfuscation used for Hulu Japan is not done via a fixed VPN. Those IP addresses get blocked right away by the big streaming providers. It is instead what they are calling "Smart DNS". I loved PureVPN as a VPN provider, but their Smart DNS does not work with Hulu Japan. IronSocket's service is twice the price, but their Smart DNS gets me through to Hulu Japan.

The Hulu Japan subscription is the other big piece of this. My American credit card worked fine for it. I did all of this in July of 2015. Other providers may now also support Hulu Japan. It's worth a search.

First time posting in forever.  Angel Aya moved here end of January and we were married in March, so between that and a punishing work schedule, it's been a whirlwind. Anyhoo - wanted to zombie this thread to report some experiences with Japanese TV in the US and Japanese TV through IPTV.

We tried subscribing to TV Japan, which lasted about an hour because the wife can't stand NHK's programming. Can't say I blame her. It seems the majority of it is stuff like "Two Hours of Violin Concerto" and "The Secret Lives of Mountains". After spending weeks watching other TV channels in Japan, I realized just how stiff and boring it was.

I finally landed on buying a cheap Android TV box (http://www.amazon.com/Android-CHSLING-Lo...ge_o00_s00). I went to japannettv.com, bought a World TV subscription, and installed the APK on the Android device. It works like a charm. Good, clean picture, and very easy to use software. Plus, if something happens to the service, I'm not tied to a single device; I can switch to another service just by installing a new APK.

I LOLed at "The Secret Lives of Mountains." Hey, they do have BuraTamori, though, and that guy on the bicycle with the great gravelly voice who all the old lady groupies keep chasing. "Baa-chan, stop running after him, you'll break your hip!"

OKOK, it's pretty dry stuff. I'm too lazy to find anything better, though.

Congrats on getting married!
