I haven't actually bought anything yet but I plan to get gift cards and use that (don't really feel like putting my visa out there). Then again, I made a JPN account, switch some stuff, switched locations and now it works like a charm. They allow sample readings but I haven't used the JPN-JPN dictionary yet(only allowed to use when the actually books are purchased).
What kind of JPN Address did you use for your Amazon Account? Tenso or something else?
First off I made a JPN account for a new email address. Then I made a new account on my kindle and entered the necessary information. The email they asked for postal code(used a business one in hokkaidou I found online). I signed up for an amazon account my kindle and it worked well. I just didn't enter my credit card info(you can add a gift card). I tried to buy something but it said I wasn't present in the country. So I went to my JPN amazon account, changed my location and entered info on location, name, number.postal code and it worked(again used a business address in Hokkaidou).

Worked like a charm (it did give me a warning saying that if you are found to be a non-resident of Japan, you can get banned. Be very careful).
