Tae Kim is pretty short and concise. You should be able to finish it pretty fast at 1-2 chapters per day.

You definitely need a grammar guide of some kind so that you can even recognise grammar structures. For people who are self-studying I highly recommend Tae Kim because it's concise and detailed enough...
