I know the Japanese have individual words for elder/younger brother/sister (兄 弟 姉 妹) but if I wanted to say "he has a brother/sister [whose age I do not know]" how would I say it? Is there a default?

I often hear, or read bits of dialogue that are apparently gender specific, so to speak. Not like the use of "boku" or anything, but like the way, especially among friends and in the low degree, the t...

I guess walking around calling myself Takeshi Smith (that's not my last name, by the way), would sound rather ridiculous. It's weird how it doesn't work that way the other way around Jay Chou, Anne S...

After a while, your cards become mature enough that's it probably worth deleting them. I have cards in my deck which won't under review for another 3 years, and it's mostly quite simple stuff that's b...

Yeah I see what you mean. Be probably a lot easier to go with バジル than something like Shinji or whatever, which probably would make me look like a bit of a twat. Thanks Hehe, Chin Wang Dong

I was pondering this the other day. If I go to live in Japan, would it make sense to adopt a Japanese nickname at all? It's quite common the other way around, but is it done at all over there - Wester...
