English spelling reflects etymological history. Losing that would be as much of a shame as if Japanese lost Kanji.

Ah I see, thanks, I wasn't aware of that usage. It's clear to me here how helpful kanji usually is in reading comprehension.

My handwriting has always been messy, but all this writing practice for kana and kanji has led to a revived interest in practising calligraphy in English as well as Japanese. And writing by hand often...
