Hmmm I don't have problems using it on a japanese windows xp... have you tried ebwin? Maybe you won't have the same problems and the program is slightly better and more user friendly.

Finally did it! Reached the 2042 mark a few days ago. Took me around 4 months. The first 2 months were lazy, then I accelerated (doing 50 to 100 kanji a day). Thanks for all your stories, they've help...
