Gaining confidence understanding and translating - loverkanji - 2012-09-28 I been learning japanese for a long time and although there is some progress it still not enough. I noticed that I simply lack the confidence to translate what I read. It's made worse by the fact that if I look for a word in the dictionary gives me a billion translations of the same word. Even when I think I understand what I read I'm still not sure if it's correct, same thing with listening, japanese has so many similar sounding names that I never feel confident in my understanding. For example: 1. お嬢様の素行に何ら問題でも?貴様の如きどこの馬の骨ともわからぬ小僧に、許可を得る必要があるか! I cannot make any sense of it. something about misbehaving towards the lady, and you look like horse skeleton or something... 2. シャルロットさんに叱られ黙ったものの、ものすごい目つきで睨んでくる。 I think it's something like "became quiet after was scolded by Sharulote, although he still gave me a frightening stare" Gaining confidence understanding and translating - sikieiki - 2012-09-29 1. What, you've got a problem with what she does?! Its not like she needs approval from some suspicious person like you! 2. After being scolded by Charlotte, he glared back with a frightening stare Browse the internet for example sentences using the words or patterns you arent familiar with Gaining confidence understanding and translating - JimmySeal - 2012-09-29 As you've probably guessed, 馬の骨 is an idiomatic expression: http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/leaf/jn2/20323/m0u/%E9%A6%AC%E3%81%AE%E9%AA%A8/ 1. Do you have some problem with the lady's behavior? She doesn't need to ask for approval from a little mutt like you! 2. Sounds like you got it about right. Gaining confidence understanding and translating - loverkanji - 2012-09-29 Thanks for the replies guys. That's the thing, by myself I have a problem of deconstructing the sentence but with your translations I have an idea of how to do it, I know in which direction to think. Same thing with watching anime with or without subtitles, if I watch it without I'm always doubtful if I got it right or not but if I watch it with subtitles it kind of steers me in the right direction. |
