Anki fonts are weird, and so are the ones on this site. I'm using firefox right now, but I think it's something that needs to be changed system wide.

yeah, its simplified chinese characters.

Usually you have to root the device to fix it but if you have jellybean you can change the settings to Japanese (but everything will be in that language)

I rooted it when I first got it, but never ended up doing any hacks with that. how do i do it?

changing it to japanese didn't help. the kanji i'm looking up is "wrap"
and the snake looks like a P with a long tail instead of an S

Fonts can be changed per deck. For example, I'm using stroke order font for RTK deck.

Per Hyperborea, go to this thread. If you are running Jellybean, then his solution is the best. If you are running Ice Cream Sandwich, then my kludge might work.

"system" folder is a folder located at the root of the system, that is the highest directory, which you can't access unless your device is rooted and you use a file manager that can access the system folders, like Astro. Rooting your device voids the warranty and not following the right procedure might brick your device, though many people root their devices.

thanks a lot guys! I finally got it to work, I re-rooted, and after several hours of screwing around and about pulling my hair out I got it to work with some third party programs... really frustrating that you can't write into that folder even when you root it. I had to find a program that changed permissions. anyways it's done, and i'm grateful for the help.
